IM MAS AT 2008 Sydney International Open Chess Tournament

Sydney does bring back sweet memories to me when I was studying for my Master degree at UNSW.Life was never dull there as so many things can be done like cruising at Circular Quay,watching the baskers at Darling Harbour,leisuring at Bondi Beach ..etc.Hopefully,it will bring a good memory to our GM-to-be Mas too.

The event will be a 9-round FIDE and ACF rated event open to all players. Time control is 90 minutes + 30 second increment. There are alot of top rated GMs around as most of them come straight from Doeberl Open in Canberra. There are 106 players in Open Category and IM Mas was seeded 19th.

Let's pray that he will gain his first GM norm here as the fields are very competitive..!!

He redeemed back his reputation by beating IM Vladimir and finish the tournament with 5.5 points.He managed to be at 22nd place (shared 15th-25th places).He will be heading to Sydney International Open 2008 next .. Ahooooi!!All aboard, mate!!!

He beat WIM Laura and gain some grounds after 2 previous defeats.

He lost again ... to a lower ranking players and that spell doom to his chance to be in top 10.But that guy must be good and in top form as he can gain 4.5 points after beating IM Mas!!!

Unfortunately,he failed to beat WGM Roufan in order to catch the leaders.He lost to her.

In Round 2, it is quite unlucky for him to meet Zhang Zhong and lost. Recently, IM Mas met GM Zhang Zhong several times in various tournaments but still fail to turn the table againts him.

The last time I met IM Mas,he was saying that he will be going to Australia to train with GM Ian Rogers and plays some tournaments there.Since I was occupied with lectures,I did not follow up his programs .. !(. I will try to update on his games at Doeberl Cup as usual so that his fans can use the blog as archive in future.
