HOW TO CALCULATE FOR GM NORM

Figure 1.The expected 8 marks with TPR >2601

Figure 2. The actual calculation with 2 lowest ELO replacement as per recomendation
with TPR 2560.

Figure 3.The initial ELO entry

I tried a program Chess Calculator in order to calculate IM Mas chance to get GM norm.See the instruction below:

The Grandmaster or International Master Norm is meeting the FIDE norm requirements and getting the minimum score at which the performance rating is equal, or exceed:
1· 2601 for the Grandmaster norm.
2· 2451 for the International Master norm.
3· 2401 for the Woman Grandmaster norm.
4· 2251 for the Woman International Master norm.

Note: Another way to be awarded the Grandmaster or International Norm is to gain specific results in specific championship events as defined by FIDE.
Before calculating the performance rating, make certain to meet the FIDE norm requirements for the Grandmaster or International Master norm. If you do not meet them, you may not be qualified for a norm. If you do, then find the corresponding norm by the performance rating.
You are recommended to calculate the norms separately from other Elo results. The following is the example of finding the Grandmaster norm which performance rating floor is 2601.

To find the norms by the performance rating
1· Type the initial data and scan through Individual Ratings of the Opponents.
2· Replace the 2 lowest individual ratings of the opponents, if they are lower than, for 2250 for GM norm (2100 for IM norm, 2050 for WGM norm, and 1900 for WIM norm). Then type 1600 for any unrated opponent. In our example, no need for rating replacement.
3· Click the Calculate button and the program displays the Elo results.
4· Notice the current performance rating (Performance) and close the Chess Calculator Player’s Results window.
5· Keep intact the initial data in the Chess Calculator Main window but change the Player’s Score and then click the Calculate button again.
6· Repeat until you find the smallest score ( the GM norm) at which the performance rating is equal or exceeds the floor of 2601 (in our example the GM norm is 7).

IM Mas at Biel 41st International Chess Festival -Round 11

IM Mas have to play for broke here and he managed to beat another GM!!!It shows that he is a GM item.Unfortunately, he missed out on the GM norm by 0.5 point!!!!!!!ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!!!!!!! The previous defeat come back to hunt him!!! This was confirmed by his message to his family. A day before, I was talking to his coach and father .He indicate that there are other criteria that need to be fulfilled to get it.That mean the last win might not be enough. However, he finish at 11th place (joint 9th-15th).He is the first IM after list of GMs.This achievement is tributed to training session with GM Ian Roger and another coach during his stay in Hungary during the First Saturday tourney.

IM Mas at Biel 41st International Chess Festival -Round 10

It is a hard task for Mas. The performance of the GM Evgeny in previous tourneys seemed to be very consistence. This defeat has dampened his chance to get the GM norm
